Akita, Japan
1973

The text below is taken directly from the video documentary Akita and the Fatima Secret.  In an effort to focus on the actual Marian messages, for the following we purposely omitted support material from the video, including the witness to the tears from a statue of Mary, that are supportive evidence of authenticity, but not directly part of Mary’s messages.

Sister Agnes Sasagawa’s testimony of strange events at her Convent in Japan:

Sister Agnes: “One day in mid-June before Mother went out, she told me to pray before the Blessed Sacrament.  I went as usual to the chapel to open the tabernacle.  At the altar, as I stepped up there a light suddenly shone out.  I was completely overawed.  The light so overwhelmed me I threw myself on the floor.  That was the first occurrence.”

The light reappeared twice more during the next two days and again the next day, the Vigil of The Sacred Heart.  This time, she sensed the presence of a number of beings like angels around the altar.  The day after, while praying the Rosary, she felt a presence praying with her.  She related everything to Bishop John Ito.

Sister Agnes: “I confided all this to the Bishop.  He said it must be an angel who was leading me in prayer.  This angel has guided me ever since.  The Bishop said it was too early to discuss what was happening.  I was not to discuss it with anybody.  My convent life was to continue in a normal way.  The Bishop warned me against thinking I was privileged in any way.  I should try harder to be humble.  To lead a life like the others.  He said he believed me to be a normal, stable person.  I was not to worry too much.

By the early summer, Sister Agnes Sasagawa was preparing for religious profession.  One evening during prayer, she was aware of a nagging pain in her hand.  After leaving the chapel she found a cross-shaped wound had developed.  She confided in the Mother Superior.

Mother Superior: “Sister showed me a wound on her hand.  She was tearful and wondered why this happened to her.  The wound which had appeared was in the shape of a cross.  It had swelled up in blisters, just here (pointing to her own hand).”

Sister Agnes: “On this first Friday in July at 3 in the morning, an angel led me to chapel.  The angel told me a wound similar to mine had also developed on the hand of Mary’s statue but that this wound was much more painful than mine.  The angel’s voice was hard to define.  It was a voice that penetrated my deaf ears and touched my innermost heart.  The angel took me to the chapel.  I wanted to see the wound on Mary’s hand.  As I approached the altar suddenly the statue gleamed with light.  Bewildered, I prostrated myself on the floor.  I then heard the infinitely beautiful voice of Mary.  Her first words to me were:”

Mary (Sister Agnes): “My dear daughter, my novice.  You have obeyed me well in leaving everything to follow me.  Does your deafness worry you?  You will be healed of it.  Be certain of this – persevere.  This will be your final trial.  Does your wound hurt you?  Pray in reparation for the sins of mankind.  Each of you is my dearest daughter.  Do you say the prayers of the community from your heart?  Let us pray together.”

Sister Agnes: “She prayed with me.”

Sister Agnes was led in the prayer of the Institute.  “Most Sacred Heart of Jesus present in the Eucharist…”  At that point she was interrupted with the words “truly present.”

Mary (Sister Agnes):  “From now on you should add the word ‘truly’.”

She conveyed this to the Mother Superior.

Mother Superior:  “I ran to Mary’s statue.  Sister’s left hand was wounded but the statue was marked on the right.  Here, as if drawn by a ruler, a clear black cross appeared.  I was very sad and upset, believing we had hurt our mother.  I prayed and prayed all day, asking her to forgive us.  Sister seemed in great pain.  The statue had a black cross-shaped wound.  The lines were perfect in shape.  One sister thought it must be children’s mischief.  But I know that children can’t draw such perfect straight lines without using a ruler.  I did not tell anybody at first.  I thought it must be God’s will.  He would reveal His purpose in it.  Until then we should keep silent and wait.”

Agnes continued to tell the Bishop everything as it happened.

Bishop Ito: “A wound appeared on her hand.  On Thursdays it swelled and got red followed by bleeding on Fridays.  On Saturday it would heal leaving a scar.  It was an incredible sight - I saw it myself.  Sister seemed in great pain.  She was trying to protect it with a cotton wool wrapping.  I witnessed all this.”

On August 3rd, Agnes reported that the apparitions had spoken again.  She said that the Blessed Virgin was seeking souls who would console the Lord and soften the anger of the Heavenly Father.  Mary stressed that calamities were hanging over the world because of the ingratitude and disobedience of mankind.  There were also warnings similar to those given earlier in 1917 in Fatima, Portugal.

Sister Agnes: “We were mortified…Almighty God was showing His anger to mankind.  If man continues to sin, He will punish the world.  To soften His anger, Holy Mary was interceding for us by offering Him the suffering of the Son on the cross.  By offering Him the sufferings of well-loved victim souls.  By these offerings she seeks to console the heavenly Father.  Prayer, penance, poverty and acts of sacrifice.  These courageous acts can soften the Father’s anger.  She wished these from us as well.  We should love poverty and sanctify ourselves and make reparation for the ingratitude of so many.  We should say our daily prayer with awareness of its meaning and put into practice, offering it for reparation for sin.  It is important to gather together and pray to the best of our ability.  Even sinners should come together to pray.  Do not attach yourselves to the form but be faithful in prayer and endeavor to pray with enthusiasm.”

The third and final message was received two months later on October 13, 1973.

Sister Agnes: “It was in October of the same year.  Until August 1 I had not professed my vows.  Previously I had been addressed as “my daughter, my novice.  This time Holy Mary said ‘My loving daughter.’  Her voice was very serious.”

Mary (Sister Agnes): “My loving daughter, listen carefully to what I have to say and tell your superior about it.  As I previously told you, if people do not repent, God will send a terrible punishment.  When this happens it will be more severe than ever before. Worse than at the time of the flood.  A fire will fall from heaven.  Most of humanity will be destroyed.  Neither priests nor the faithful will be spared.  Survivors will be in such desolation they will envy the dead.  The only weapons left to you will be the rosary and the sign of my Son.  Pray the rosary. Pray for the Pope, bishops and priests with the rosary.”

Mary (Sister Agnes): “Satan will enter the Church.  Cardinals will oppose cardinals.  Bishops will be against bishops.  Those priests who revere me will be despised and attacked.  Churches and altars will be desecrated.  The Church will be filled with those who accept compromise.  Satan will lead many priests and religious away from God.  He will concentrate especially on consecrated souls.  Like the first Judas, the last Pope will sell my Son to the enemy. The era of the antichrist Pope will soon come. The loss of so many souls causes me great distress.  There will be no forgiveness if sins continue to increase.  Don’t be afraid to tell your superior about this.  He will know how to encourage you to pray and make reparation.”

Sister Agnes: “They were stern words.”

In 1981 the miracle of tears from the statue (see the full documentary for details) stopped and Sister Agnes was healed of her deafness.
