Promoting Humanae Vitae

Activities for Parish Pro-Life Groups

• Arrange a meeting with the pastor to discuss the following:
  
  Pick dates throughout the year when there will be homilies on Humanae Vitae so that lay resources can be coordinated to support the preaching with pamphlet handouts, guest speakers and introductory NFP seminars.  Sample homilies are available under Homilies on our site.  For useful articles, go to ThinkChastity.com.
  
  Pick dates for targeting the parish bulletin with important teachings on Humanae Vitae and other articles defending the Church’s teachings on sex marriage and birth control.  Several such articles are available under Teachings on our site or go to the Articles page on ThinkChastity.com.
  
  Ask your pastor or one of your priests to write a short message supporting Humanae Vitae for inclusion in parish newsletters.

• Give out cassette tapes, “Contraception, Why Not?”  This tape gives an excellent explanation and defense of Catholic teaching and only costs $1.00 each if over 100 are ordered. (One More Soul, 1-800-307-7685, http://www.onemoresoul.com).

• Maintain a supply of Humanae Vitae pamphlets in the rack at the back of the Church.

• Host an NFP Outreach in your parish.  This involves Father Daniel McCaffrey, Father Matthew Habiger or Brian Murphy coming to your parish and preaching on Humanae Vitae at all of the Masses.  This is followed by an NFP sign-up outside the Church or a full  NFP workshop in the Church Hall where interested parties can learn about NFP from certified instructors, a witness couple, and a medical doctor. • Cost:
  NFP Outreach:
  Airfare and hotel for the speaker and either a $1,000 stipend or a second collection to benefit the ministry.
  
  Host a “homemade” NFP Outreach at your parish with your priests speaking on Humanae Vitae.  The rest of the event would be similar to above.

• Host a small, stand-alone event where someone speaks on sterilization, contraception and/or NFP.

• Contact the religious education coordinators and propose that a Humanae Vitae seminar be incorporated into the RCIA program, the youth and adult confirmation program and other programs as appropriate.
